The season includes five Saturday morning competitive swim meets starting in late June and running through the end of July. Children compete within age groups, not according to skill. The coaching staff, led by Ramsey Mihavetz, herself a Barracuda alumna, guides swimmers of all skill levels in stroke mechanics, starts and turns, and competition technique. Young and non-swimmers are given instruction in the various strokes including freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. Very young and inexperienced swimmers benefit from participation in the Junior ‘Cudas, where special instruction is offered in small, non-threatening groups. A strong emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, team spirit, and teammate support. In the Big Brother/Big Sister program, young swimmers are paired up with older, more experienced members of the team for mentorship and to cheer each other on at the meets. Parents of swim team members must be members of Bolton Swim & Tennis. |
